Bayan Luma is one of the barrios in the City of Imus. The name Bayan Luma was derived from history itself. According to its early residents, Bayan Luma is the oldest town of the city. It was here where traders could travel and transport products from one town to another. After so many years, the town was transferred to poblacion proper and the people began to call this place Lumang Bayan, which soon became Bayan Luma.
It is situated from Bantayan to Tulay Julian in Bucandala. It was soon divided into nine (9) smaller barangays which is headed by Barangay Chairman. The Barangay Council is composed of a barangay chairman, eight (8) councilors, a secretary and a treasurer. It also has a Sangguniang Kabataan Council composed of the Council Chairman, (8) young councilors, a secretary, and a treasurer. Residents strongly believe in God. Famous traditional observed here during fiesta is the “Karakol” a form of street dancing. Santacruzan during the month of May is still being practiced and observed.
Bayan Luma I Elementary School had its beginning in 1945. For a start, a class in Grade I was organized on the first floor of Mrs. Felisa Camia’s house. Every year a new grade was added until it became a complete primary school. The four classes occupied the rented buildings owned by Mr. Juan Paredes, Mrs. Angela Saradpen, Mrs. Rosario Lacson and Mr. Pedro Camaclang.
With the help of former Mayor Dominador Ilano, Governor Dominador Camerino and Mr. Eduardo Joson, the PTA President, a ½ hectare lot was acquired from Mr. Esteban Espiritu for the school site. The first school building was composed of three rooms, which housed the intermediate grades and Home Economics.
After several years, the building was elevated. The first floor was occupied by the primary grades. A new Home Economics and Industrial Arts Buildings were added under the able leadership of the PTA with the help of former Senator Kangleon, former Congressman Jose Cajulis, former Governor Deltin Montano and Mayor Jose V. Jamir.
Bayan Luma I Elementary School has an official address at Barangay Luma V, Imus Cavite. It is one of the 26 public elementary schools in the Division of Imus City.
The school became a complete public elementary school in 1950 with four (4) classrooms that accommodated the six (6) grade levels. As of now, it has
It implements the K to 12 Basic Education of the Department of Education. It is one of the Department Implementing arms of the different thrust and programs DEAR, F4, Project RUSH, Saturday Math CLass, Project ECARP, Abot Alam, CFSS, Gulayan sa Paaralan,School Based Feeding program, Adopt a School Program and Brigada Eskwela among others.
It is being supervised by one public elementary school principal, and 30 national funded teacher.
Presently it has a total enrollment of 1,287 that is from Kindergarten- Grade VI (School Year 2019-2020). It has 31 classroom, a Home Economics Building, School Canteen, School Clinic/ Library, Guidance Room, ICT Room, and an Administration building.
